We are starting a “How To” series to share the tricks and tips for optimizing Locally for your events or business. This first is called How to Broadcast Your Location in Real Time. We call this our “On Location” service.

Who: Food Trucks, Mobile Vendors, Artists, Craftsman, Wineries, Breweries

When to Use: If you are going to be at a festival or art show, large event with many vendors, street vending or off-site from your normal place of business.

In a few easy steps, you can use Locally to show all your fans and followers exactly where you are and when you are ready to see customers. At a craft show? Share your exact location so customers can find you among the other vendors. This is one of many examples.

The Steps:

  1. Sign on to Locally on your GPS enabled smartphone (m.locally.fm)
  2. Select the amount of time you want your location to be public
  3. Press “Start Broadcasting”

Instantly, your precise location is mapped, shared on the Locally platform AND if you have connected your Facebook and Twitter accounts in the company settings and enabled auto-posting, the notification will be published to all your fans and followers.

Of course we will retweet, share on Facebook and let others know about events, featured vendors or events and what they miseed via our email list.

You can read a more in depth set of instructions complete with screenshots and images here.

We have had a busy week and it looks like we will continue to be busy over the next few weeks. Wednesday we presented at the Philly Entrepreneur Expo during Philly Tech Week sponsored by Philly Startup leaders, today, we are announcing our partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation as we soft-launch Locally Events at Love Park, and next week we are off to Sonoma, CA to launch Locally Events in wine country! Whew.

In preparation for these milestones we have been working hard for many months to bring you several updates and enhancements to Locally. Here they are in no particular order:

User Interface

In general, Locally has undergone a reconstruction. Many visual elements have been upgraded and many are new to the platform including Locally Events. From profile pages to event pages you will immediately see a vast improvement.

Locally Events

Now registered users can create, manage and share events with our new Event Manager. If you like using our “on-demand” location technology, keep on using it! However, if you prefer to plan ahead, use the event manager to create events complete with date, address, time, price, and more.

Facebook Integration

Registered users can connect a Facebook account. This enables the option to have Locally auto-post your events and “on-location” activity to one or more Facebook Pages you manage. The same is true for one Twitter account.

Mobile

The Locally mobile site (called a web app) has been slimmed down for speed and usability. We are adding a prompt to place an icon on your homescreen for launching the app in the future (icon works for iPhone and iPad only). Mobile reveals experiences in your immediate location by default.

These are the big updates, there are several others you’ll find on your own or that will be released shortly. Please share your thoughts and what we can do to improve Locally!

The positive PR keeps rolling in for Locally customers, this time Cupcake Carnivale in Philadelphia! Zagat published an article on the must try food trucks in the U.S. for this spring. Jeff is well deserving of this press and the folks of Philly will attest! We love to see these great customers receive recognition for their hard work and dedication.

Adele Chapin, writer at Washington DC Citypaper did a review of several food truck apps that are on the market (or soon to be). One thing to note is that accuracy IS the number one value prop for food truck apps. If they are not accurate, they will be a bust.

One reason Locally works well with food trucks is the ability to leverage GPS technology in smartphones. Press a button and instantly promote your location on Locally, Twitter and Facebook. This provides a truly accurate experience. One issue with our app is that people forget to use it. With new features like event scheduling, any event planner or food truck can add a location in advance which will then automatically and correctly identify when and where an event or food truck is available.
